Arrival in Quito

Today I arrived after an overnight from JFK. Transportation was easy and the hostel (Casa Bambu) is in a great location - quiet, clean, and plenty of space.

View from the hostel.

I met up with Kat and Navin who had arrived earlier, showered, and went immediately to bed. Post-nap we went for a walking tour of the old part of the city and collected some groceries for this evening's dinner. People here are friendly and helpful and the town has some very nice old architecture. We ducked into Cafe Caribe near the Grand Plaza for a delicious lunch of empanadas and quimbolitos.

A cathedral in the old part of town.

Walking up the steep hills is definitely reminding us that we are at altitude (around 9,000ft above sea level). We're attempting to properly acclimatize by consuming more aqua than cerveza!
